LEONARD G. “TUCK” TAYLOR

Leonard G. (Tuck) Taylor, 78, of Blencoe, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 16, 1987, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Decatur, Nebr., on August 31, 1908, the son of Tom and Nora Taylor. He was the eldest of a large family. He married Nellie Goreham on October 24, 1932, at Elk Point, S.D. To this union was born one son, Franklin G. Taylor. He farmed for a few years and then worked in road construction with heavy equipment. He retired as the finish blade-operator on the road construction in 1973 at Onawa, Iowa, moving to Blencoe, Iowa, in 1978.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa. Leonard’s main hobbies were fishing, hunting and bowling. He won many bowling trophies before retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie; his son, Franklin and his daughter-in-law Patricia of Blencoe, Iowa; his grandchildren, SRA Leonard M. Taylor of William Air Force Base, Arizona, AN Patrick G. Taylor and his wife, Lisa, Washington, D.C. where Patrick is stationed with the Presidential Ceremonial Guard, and Franklin D. Taylor at home and a senior at University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming; his sisters, Marge Pounds and Mary Gallup of Decatur, Nebr.; his brothers, Harve and Jim of Lyons, Nebr., John of Falls City, Nebr., Dale Melvin (Stub) of Allen, Nebr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Peg, Fern, LaVerne and Ann; and his brother, Don (Red).

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 1987, at the First Christina Church in Onawa with Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Fred Gibson in the vocal selections “Take My Hand Precious Lord” and “The New 23rd Psalm”.

Bearers were SRA Leonard M. Taylor, AN Patrick G. Taylor, Franklin D. Taylor, Dale Melvin Taylor, Dale r. Olson and Richard Taylor.

Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur, Nebr., with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
