CLAIRE HARRIS

Claire Harris, 65, Onawa, Iowa, died suddenly on Saturday, May 16, 1987, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He was born October 7, 1921 at Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Delbert and Minnie (Nicholson) Harris. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1939. He married Mary Smith March 21, 1942, at Blair, Nebr. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Pharmacy at Lincoln in 1950. The couple moved to Onawa where he was employed at Brown Drug Store and had owned and operated Harris Drug Store from 1959 until 1982. He then was employed at various area pharmacies, most recently at K-Mart in Sioux City.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Onawa, Vesper Masonic Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M. of Onawa of which he was a past Master, the Sioux City Consistory, a former member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Onawa and former member of the Onawa Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Onawa; two sons, Rex of Onawa and Phillip of West Bend, Iowa; a brother, Maynard of Moorhead; a sister, Mrs. Jay (Maxine) Griffith of Mesa, Arizona; and two granddaughters, Allison and Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 1987, at the Onawa Cemetery with Rev. Herbert Foxworthy officiating.

Honorary bearers were Clifford Young, Arvid Johnson, Donald Southwick, Roger Blatchford, David Deedrick, Edward Black, Robert Reese and Dr. William Samson.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
