WHITING, Iowa | Georgia E. Waugh, 93, of Whiting passed away Sept. 22, 2013, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Whiting, with the Rev. Reva Karstens officiating. Burial will be in Hite Cemetery, rural Whiting. Visitation with the family will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Georgia was born on May 12, 1920, in Whiting, the daughter of Wallace and Lenora (Packwood) Harvey. She attended Whiting Consolidated School, graduating in 1933. She then attended Morningside College in Sioux City.

On July 17, 1941, Georgia married her high school sweetheart, Bernell Waugh. While Bernell served overseas with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, Georgia worked at several area banks. Bernell and Georgia settled on the family farm northwest of Whiting. On Feb. 9, 1947, they welcomed a son, Larry. Georgia worked for Dr. Bill Garred in Onawa for more than 30 years. Bernell and Georgia farmed until his death on April 23, 1975. Georgia lived in her own home for 92 years. The last year of her life, she enjoyed her home at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Georgia was a 70-year member of Whiting American Legion Auxiliary, a 50-year member and past matron of the Eastern Star, and a member of First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Whiting.

Georgia enjoyed some traveling, a lot of shopping, baking cookies and brownies for the grandkids, and doing random acts of kindness for others. She was loved, pampered, and cuddled on a daily basis, while enjoying cookies baked by master cookie bakers.

Survivors include her son, Larry and wife, Ina "Sam" Waugh of Whiting; three grandchildren, Heather and her husband, Aaron Bircher of Boone, Iowa, Luke Waugh of Mason City, Iowa, and Brittany Waugh of Shelbyville, Ind. and Tampa, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Waugh of Ponca City, Okla., and Helen Figy of Chino Valley, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernell; a grandson, Lance Andrew Waugh; her parents, Wallace and Lenore Harvey; an infant brother; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald Waugh, Jewell and Cleta Waugh, Harold and Elmira Oldis, Alvin and Lorraine Harding, and Donald and Shirley Waugh.

Memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Unit at Pleasant View Care Center, First Congregational Church, U.C.C., or the Whiting Public Library.
