25 September 2013ONAWA, Iowa | Melissa M. Framke, 42, of Onawa passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, in Onawa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O’Kane, celebrant. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Melissa Marie was born on Sept. 18, 1971, in Sioux City, the daughter of Larry Framke and Marilyn (Sabatka) Kelley. She graduated from West Monona High School in Onawa in 1990. She attended Iowa State University and transferred to Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., where she was actively involved in the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity and received her bachelor of science degree in business.
After college, she worked at First Federal Bank in Sioux City. She then transferred to Des Moines, where she began work at Pension Plan Services for two years. Melissa utilized her pension experience to begin a 15-year career in the retirement and investor services area at Principal Financial Group. In 2009, Melissa returned to Onawa to be closer to her family, where she endured a courageous battle against epilepsy.
She was known for her smile, her kind and gentle spirit and her sense of belonging with her family. Most of her free time was spent with her family, attending her sister’s and her nephew’s various sporting and school activities, enjoying a simple cup of coffee, reading, shopping and cooking together.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Larry and Kate Framke of Onawa, and Marilyn and Mike Kelley of Onawa; three sisters, Felicia (Randy) Collison of Bondurant, Iowa, Megan Framke and Devin Yeager of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Paige Framke of Onawa; two nephews, Cade and Colby Collison of Bondurant; four stepbrothers, Patrick Kelley of Blencoe, Iowa, Robert Kelley of Onawa, Matt Midtgarrd of Northwood, Iowa, and Trent Midtgarrd of Northwood; her grandfather, Frank Sabatka of Onawa; her grandmother, Helen Framke of Onawa; her step-grandfather, William Kelley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Esther Sabatka; her grandfather, Leo Framke; and her step-grandmother, Bonnie Kelley.
