ELMER M. ESKELSEN

Elmer M. Eskelsen, 83, Moorhead, Iowa, died Sunday, April 19, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, in Onawa, Iowa.

He was born July 23, 1903, on a farm near Moorhead, to Martin and Christine (Nielsen) Eskelsen. On July 29, 1927, he married Frances Duer at Moorhead. The couple farmed near Moorhead until moving into Moorhead in 1951. He was employed with Sorenson John Deere Implement and later was compliance supervisor for the Monona County ASCS Office. Mrs. Eskelsen died April 29, 1981, at Onawa. He was currently a resident of Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa.

He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and had served as a trustee and treasurer of the church.

Survivors include one son, Louis of Duluth, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Karen and Alan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; one brother, Edward; and one sister, Johanne Hansen.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 1987, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Birkedal officiating. The organist was Mrs. Daryle Lauritsen and soloist, Bill Johnson, sang “How Great Thou Art” and “It Is No Secret What God Can Do”.

Honorary bearers were Versel Knudsen, Thorvold Petersen, Orlo Shaffer, John P. Johnson, Norman Hanson, Rev. Dennis J. Lauritsen and Roy Lauritsen.

Active bearers were Daryle Lauritsen, Virgil Johnson, Ivan Nielsen, John Iversen, Bill Knudsen, Keith Hieber.

Interment was in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
