MARVIN MELBY

Services for Marvin Leonard Melby were held Friday March 20, 1987, at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap with Pastor Wendell Berggren officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dunlap.

Marvin Leonard Melby was born March 24, 1939, in Crawford County to Leonard and Mildred Melby. He died suddenly March 17, 1987, in Kimball, Neb., at the age of 47.

On July 27, 1957, he was married to Sylvia Sparks. To this union four children were born. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Soldier. He attended the Moorhead school and lived in the Moorhead vicinity until 1962 when the family moved to Logan.

He was employed by Brown’s Mfg. in Woodbine for nine years. At the time of his death he was employed by Dilts Trucking Co., Crescent.

Survivors are his wife Sylvia, one son, Mark, (wife Judy); two daughters, Jeanyce and Brenda (Mrs. Dana) Hildreth; four grandchildren, Trever, Daisha, Tommy and Brianne; his mother, Mildred Melby of Dunlap; two sisters, Joan Gau and Lois (Mrs. David) Rudd, both of Dunlap; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Sparks of Decatur, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy, in 1961; his father, Leonard, in September 1983; and his father-in-law, Edison Sparks, in February 1983.

Music at the services was provided by Dick Clark, who sang “All I Have To Offer You Is Me”, “Walk Through This World With Me” and “Why Me, Lord?”, and Betty Berggren with “Beneath The Cross Of Jesus”.

Pall bearers were Larry Maguire, Lyle Michael, Howard Swanger, Norm Kuhlman, Benny Charbonneau and Rex Johnsen. Honorary bearers were Larry Schaffer, Tim Faylor, Jim Straight, Barney Johnsen, Russ Jackson and Darwin Robinson.

Schumacher Funeral Home in Logan was in charge of arrangements.
