CARL WALTER SIMPSON, JR.

Carl Walter Simpson, Jr., Onawa, Iowa, died suddenly on Tuesday, April 7, 1987, after suffering an apparent heart attack. Death came at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 14 days.

He was born at Viborg, South Dakota, on August 24, 1925, the son of Carl Walter Simpson and Anna Marie (Johnson) Simpson. He lived in the Onawa and Castana areas prior to serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict. He married Lillian A. Sorenson February 14, 1951, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in rural Onawa the last 36 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian, of Onawa; five sons, Dennis and Doug, both of Onawa, Mike of Whiting, Roger of Long Beach, Calif. and Jim of Des Moines; two daughters, Sandy, of Onawa and Mrs. Nancy Jenkins of Sioux City; his mother, Anna Simpson of Castana; two brothers, LaVerne, of Whiting and Eugene of Omaha; two sisters, Norma Miller of Castana and Mrs. Jack (Ramona) Graham of Sioux City; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Kenneth.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 1987, in Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa with Pastor Quentin Quanbeck officiating. Mrs. Syril Brown, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Fred Gibson, the soloist, in the selection “His Eye Is on the Sparrow”.

Active bearers were Michael Ellis, Jerry Cundiff, Sigurd Sorenson, Dwight Jenkins, Ralph Bean, and Norman Martindale.

Honorary bearers were Charles Parr, Chris Sorenson, Samuel Mann, Ralph Robinson and Robert Cummins.

Interment was in Kennebec Cemetery at Castana with Military Service by Grimsley-Thayer American Legion Post No. 502, Castana, Iowa, Gilbert Gotto, Commander.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
