IRVING N. GLEASON

Irving Norval Gleason, Jr., longtime Turin, Iowa resident, died on Friday, April 3, 1987, in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa after a long illness. Death came at the age of 60 years 7 months and 11 days.

He was born August 23, 1926, at Aurora, Illinois, the son of Irving Jay and Gladys E. (Shearer) Gleason. He grew up in the Little Sioux and Blencoe area. He was a pharmacist’s mate 3rd class in the U. S. Navy during World War II.

On May 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Nyda Wagner at Vail, Iowa. The couple made their home in Turin. He was a mechanic and had been employed for several years by Ray Olsen Chevrolet and Oldsmobile, House Oil Company and Cone’s Oil Company and later Hutchinson Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, all of Onawa.

He was baptized in the Blencoe Congregational Church and attended the United Methodist Church at Turin. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Nyda, of Turin; three sons, Jeff, at home, Garry of Denver, Colo., and Steven of Missouri Valley; three daughters, Lisa at home, Linda Hanson Hudik of Sergeant Bluff, and Mrs. Gary (Lark) Addy of Moorhead; his mother, Mrs. Gladys Kelley of Onawa; one sister, Mrs. Roy (Marie) Lauritsen of Moorhead; and five grandchildren and one brother-in-law, Paul Wagner of Bakersfield, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irving Jay Gleason.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 1987, at the United Methodist Church in Onawa with Rev. Hugh Bird officiating. Mrs. Jack Jordan, the organist, played “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Bearers were Joe Jackson, Jerry Shaffer, Dick Pickell, Mike Mikkelson, William Mathison, Jr. and Gerald Davis.

Interment was in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
