WALTER E. HOFFMAN

Walter E. Hoffman, 76, Onawa, Iowa, died April 1, 1987, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City.

He was born February 12, 1911, on a farm southeast of Onawa to Frank and Lucia (Weidt) Hoffman. He graduated from Blencoe High School in 1928. On June 2, 1937, he married Lucille Greeno in Mapleton. He was a farmer throughout his life and the couple lived in Onawa, Whiting and Blencoe. Upon his retirement in 1976, they moved to Onawa. Lucille died October 25, 1980, near Fairmont, Minn.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa and had taught Sunday school at First Lutheran Church in Onawa for over 20 years.

Survivors include: three sons, Frank E. of Spencer, and Roger and Wayne, both of Arvada, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Phyllis) Korinke of Minneapolis and Dian Hoffman of Glenwood; one brother, Harry of Onawa; one sister, Mrs. George (Bernice) Stevenson of Onawa; four grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; a four year old son, Robert Wayne; and two sisters, Ida Dethlefs and Mrs. Everett (Lucille) Oliver.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 1987, at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa with Rev. Quentin Quanbeck officiating. Mrs. Charles Dommer, Jr., the organist, accompanied Mrs. Fred Gibson, the soloist, in the selections “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Bearers were Don Hoffman, Leon Stevenson, Henry Kraft, Richard Kraft, Leo Martin and Jeff Hoffman.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
