Chester Minor Barnes

Chester Minor Barnes, age 70, of Bode, Iowa, formerly of Mapleton, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 21, 1988, at his residence in Bode, Iowa.

He was born on July 10, 1917, at Ute, Iowa, to James Minor and Mary (Smith) Barnes. On July 27, 1940. he married Viola Pranschke at Denison, Iowa. He was on the Section Crew with the Milwaukee Railroad at Mapleton, Iowa. During World War II, he served with the United States Army. After the war, he returned to Mapleton. Iowa, and worked for Haubrich Construction. He had been a resident of Bode, Iowa, for the past fifteen years, where he had been a construction worker.

Survivors include four sons, Ron of Sioux City, Iowa, Don of Mesa, Arizona, Terry of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Rick of Charter Oak, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Judy) Furne of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Mrs. Dick (Jolene) Streck of Schleswig, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Tadlock of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Florence Nagel of Onawa, Iowa; one brother. Dale of Ute,
Iowa; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Kenneth and Gary; five sisters, and four brothers.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 1988, at the Christian Church at Ute, Iowa, with Reverend Mark Smeltzer officiating. Karen Connell, the organist, accompanied Jean Dommer in the vocal selections, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art".

Pall bearers were Jody Barnes, Jimmy Barnes, Shane Fume, Kevin Streck, Don Barnes, and Randy Campbell.

Interment was in the St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa, with military grave side services by the Loren Hollister American Legion Post #496 of Mapleton, Iowa, with John Jacobs as the commander. The arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.
