Dale D. Barnes, age 77. of Ute, Iowa, died on Sunday. October 16, 1988, in a care center in Omaha, Nebraska, after a long illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 1988. in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, with the Reverend William Wingert officiating. Ann Delanty was the organist and Merlin Whiteing was the soloist, who sang "St. Frances Prayer" and "Be Not Afraid". The congregation sang "Amazing Grace". The burial was in the St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18. 1988, with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Ute, Iowa.

Mr. Barnes was born on January 19, 1911, to James Minor and Mary Ann (Smith) Barnes in Unionville. At the age of six, he moved with his parents to the Ute community. He married Margaret McCall on September 11, 1931, in Ute, Iowa. The couple made their home in Mapleton, Iowa, from 1939 until 1956, when they returned to Ute, lowa. They farmed in the Mapleton and Ute area and also owned and operated the Barnes Cafe In Ute, Iowa, for more than thirty years. A heavy equipment operator, he owned and operated the Barnes Construction Company since 1960. He had previously worked for the Luse and Habinck Construction Company, Maynard Ohl, Katz Construction, and Darrell Barnett.

Mr. Barnes was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute, Iowa.

Dale was preceded In death by his parents, one daughter, Betty Jean; five brothers, and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Darlene) Snow of Castana, Iowa, Mrs. Wayne (Joanie) Ohlmeier. Mrs. Joseph (Kathy) Carlson, and Mrs. Larry (Donna) Hintz, all of Ute, Iowa, and Mrs. Gene (Janet) Schneekloth of Omaha, Nebraska; a foster daughter, Mrs. George (Marcella) Castle of Mapleton, Iowa; a foster son. Elijah "Bud" Tidd of Tioga, Louisiana; two sisters, Frances Tadlock of Sioux City, Iowa, and Florence Nagel of Onawa, Iowa; twenty grandchildren: and thirty-nine great-grandchildren.

Honorary pall bearers were Frank Wimer. Milford Nordaker, Roger Thomas, Ralph Habinck. Jens Bruun, and Archie Mahoney. Casket bearers were Bruce Thomas, John Neddermeyer, Tom Pithan, Ardell Savery, Lester Mohr, and Randy Carstena.
