JAMES MINOR BARNES

Funeral services were held in the Ute Christian church on Wednesday morning, June 26, 1963 for James Minor Barnes, who died Monday, June 24 in the home of his son, Oscar in Mapleton, after a lingering illness. Rev. Otte of Mapleton conducted the services.

Mr. Barnes was born December 12, 1874 at Blakesburg, la. He married Mary Smith on May 31, 1895 at Ottumwa, and in 1917 the Barnes family moved to Ute and farmed in that community until retiring and moving to Mapleton, in 1947. His wife died in 1951.

Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Gale Dahl and Mrs. Henry Nelson, both of Ute, Mrs. Orie Scoles, Clarinda; Mrs. Emory Tadlock, Sioux City; Mrs. Ruby Olson, Mapleton, and Mrs. Walter Nagel, Onawa; five sons, Oscar, Clarence and Chester all of Mapleton; Herbert, Melbourne, and Dale of Soldier; 50 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Pall bearers were grandsons: Earl Dahl, Carl Dahl, Eugene Tadlock, Dale Nelson, Earl Krayenhagen and Duane Olson.

Burial was in St Clair cemetery under the direction of Walter funeral home.
