Mapleton Press, Mapleton, Monona, Iowa Friday, February 4 1898

Mrs. Jane O'Connor died Friday night at her home on east Main street, of heart failure. Funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church, Monday, at 10 o'clock A. M. Rev. Johnson preaching the sermon.

Jane McDowell was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, in October 1821. She was twice married. Her first husband was William Thompson with whom she came west early in the fifties and located in Illinois. In 1854 she moved to Jackson county, Iowa, her husband dieing on the way. Later she married O'Connor and continued her residence in Jackson county for nearly thirty years, her second husband having died before her removal from that place. A year was spent in Osceola county before locating in Mapleton, about twelve years ago.

Three daughters and two sons were born to her by her first husband, only two of which are now living, Robert Thompson of this place and Seth Thompson, now residing at Helena, Mont. Three sons followed her second marriage, and all are residents of this vicinity, namely, Thomas, Samuel and Perry O'Connor.

Death came to her while peacefully sleeping alone in her bed, where she was found Saturday morning by a neighbor who delivered milk to her. Grandma O'Connor, as she was familiarly known was a Christian, having been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for the past eight years. She was a kind, sweet tempered old lady, loved by all who made her acquaintance.

The interment was made in Heisler cemetery.
