Alvin C. O’Connor

Alvin C. O'Connor, 92, of Mapleton died Friday, December 24, 1982 in a Sioux City hospital.

Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Louis Altken officiated. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home of Mapleton.

Mr. O'Connor was born April 30, 1890 to Perry O'Connor and Dora Ellen Zediker in Cooper Township near Mapleton.

He married Ethel Fritz September 29, 1910, in Onawa. They farmed in the Mapleton and Soldier area, retiring in 1962 and moving into town, where he worked at the Mapleton Sale Barn for 11
years. He had been a resident at the Willow Dale Nursing Home in Battle Creek for the last 4 1/2years.

Mr. O'Connor served as a school director at Center Township for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter. Garnet, one brother, two sisters and four grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Clarence and Darrell. both of Mapleton and Edwin of Omaha; five daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Rose and Mrs. Earl (Alma) Ulven, both of Mapleton, Mrs.
Glenn (Eva) Schmidt of Ida Grove, Mrs. Everett (Charlotte) Wood of Denison and Mrs. Richard (Katheryn) Holden of Lancaster, California; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.

Pall bearers were grandsons, Elmer Rose, Chuck Ulven, Thomas O'Connor, Perry O'Connor, Michael Wood, Rick Holden, Ted Rose, Gregg O'Connor, Steven O'Connor, Freddie O'Connor, George Braden and Randy Holden.
