SWEA CITY, Iowa -- Elmer Hanisch, 92, previously of Swea City and a current resident of Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Cremation was under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Mr. Hanisch was born in Ware, Iowa, on June 1, 1912, to the late Ernest and Minnie (Kubitsche) Hanisch Sr. He was the second youngest of seven brothers and sisters, all of whom have preceded him in death. He graduated from Plover (Iowa) High School in 1930, where he was a good student and an excellent typist.

He married Mildred Emma Siefker on Feb. 18, 1937, in Pocahontas, Iowa. They farmed near Plover and Havelock, Iowa until 1947, when they moved to a farm near Seneca, Iowa. In 1985, they retired to Swea City, where they were members of United Methodist Church. He continued to live in Swea City after the death of Mildred in 1992. He moved to Pleasant View Care Center in 2004.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching wildlife. After his retirement from farming, he became an avid gardener.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Donald and Anne of Sloan, Iowa and their children, DeAnn and Brant; a daughter, Carol Hanisch of Marlboro, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Rode Hanisch (wife of Robert who is deceased) of Fairmont, Minn., and their three daughters and spouses, Jodi and Kevin Schleininger, Robin and Jake Eckmann, all of Fairmont and Renae and Dan Borchardt of Mounds View, Minn.; and six great-grandchildren, Isaac and Caleb Borchardt, Jordan Hanisch, Robert Eckmann and Zackery and Tyler Schleininger.
