SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Thomas L. Benjamin, 73, of South Sioux City died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, South Sioux City. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a Third Degree Knights of Columbus Father Trecy Council rosary at the funeral home.

Mr. Benjamin was born Dec. 2, 1931, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Thomas H. and Edith (Messing) Benjamin. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He lived in Onawa, Iowa, from 1931 to 1968, then moved to South Sioux City.

He married Berniece Montgomery on Dec. 29, 1977, in Dakota City. He worked at Kroghs Coast to Coast from 1967 to 1973 and at McKinze's from 1973 to 1975. He owned and operated Benjamin Marine from 1975 to 1986.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Father Trecy Council 3844, the American Legion Cownie-Church Post 307, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10753 of South Sioux City and Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece of South Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Katrina and Kyle Dreas of Littleton, Colo.; four sons and their wives, Michael and Chris Montgomery of Sioux City, Brady and Pam Montgomery of Hinton, Iowa, Randy and Kathy Montgomery of Dakota City and Matthew and Kristi Montgomery of Dakota City; two brothers, Paul Benjamin and Herb Benjamin, both of Onawa, Iowa; two sisters, Virginia Beck of Onawa and Helen Ryan of Blencoe, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Verla Benjamin of Onawa; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Maurice and Father George Benjamin; and a sister, Mary Benjamin.

Pallbearers will be Jim, Bill and Mike Beck, Mike Ryan, Louis and Eddie Benjamin
