WILBUR L. SKOW

Wilbur L. Skow, lifelong resident of Moorhead, died on Saturday, March 7, 1987, in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, following a sudden illness. He was 79 years of age.

He was born on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa, on March 7, 1908, the son of Lawrence and Marne (Cook) Skow. He moved into Moorhead with his family in 1917. He graduated from the Moorhead High School in 1925. He worked in Sandvold Bros. Store in Moorhead and attended Boyle Business College in Omaha.

On December 24, 1930, he married Marie Christensen at Moorhead. He began operating a service station in Moorhead in 1931 and in 1949 added the Allis Chalmers Farm Machinery line to his business. He retired in May 1985.

Mr. Skow was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church where he had served as an elder. He was a member of Elk Lodge No. 586 A. F. & A. M. of Moorhead, had served on the Moorhead School Board and was active in community affairs.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of Moorhead; two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Barbara) Holverson of Soldier and Mrs. Glenn (Constance) McBurney of Council Bluffs; a son, Wilbur L. Skow, Jr., of Greeley, Colo.; a half-sister, Mrs. Minnie Peterson of Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Carl of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Floyd of Sun City, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 1987, at the Moorhead Christian Church with Rev. John McGee and Elder John Lizer officiating. Mrs. Charles Kratz, the organist, accompanied the Men’s Quartet in the selections “How Great Thou Art” and “In The Garden”.

Bearers were Robert Skow, Richard Skow, Jim McBurney, Doug Holverson, Bruce Lauver, Steve Millhollin and Michael McBurney.

Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery at Moorhead with Masonic Graveside Services by Elk Lodge #586 A. F. & A. M. of Moorhead, Worshipful Master, Ronald Nichols and Orator, Erhart Nagethon.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.
