HARRY G. GERISH

Harry G. Gerish, 82, Little Sioux, Iowa, died Saturday in Westmont Care Center, Logan, Iowa, after a long illness.

He was born May 17, 1904, in Star Lake, Wisconsin, to William and Mary Jane (Gunsley) Gerish and moved with his family to California as a young boy.

On June 11, 1929, he married Hilda Schaffer. She died in 1954. On October 21, 1961, he married Lucy Chapman in Wilmington, California.

He was a heavy equipment operator for the Southern California Lumber Industry and retired in 1966. The couple then moved to Jane, Missouri, where he farmed and then to Little Sioux in 1968. They both moved to Westmont Care Center in Logan in September 1985.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Little Sioux and a past member of the Elks Lodge in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy; two brothers, William, of San Diego, Calif.; and Francis of St. Helena, Calif.; one sister, Esther St. Louis of San Diego, Calif.; nine stepchildren; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of friends. He will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Hilda; one daughter, Irene and one son, Gordon, Jr.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 1987, in the United Methodist Church at Little Sioux with Rev. Leon Wallace officiating. Mrs. James Parley, Jr., the organist, played “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Bearers were Hugh Grimes, David Thomas, Douglas Collison, Richard Collison, Ernest Caldwell and Floyd Flint.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
