CLARENCE LEWIS PETTY

Clarence Lewis Petty, 71, of Onawa, Iowa, died Friday in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a long illness.

He was born at Eskridge, Kansas, on December 11, 1915, the son of James Lewis Petty and Mary (Redden) Petty. He married Ethel Coyle on December 10, 1939, in River Sioux, Iowa, and the couple farmed near Little Sioux where he also did custom farm work. They moved to a farm near Onawa in 1952 and into Onawa in 1962. Mr. Petty retired in 1978.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the National Farmers Organization (NFO).

Survivors include his wife, Ethel, of Onawa; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Linda) Masters of Omaha and Madelyn Petty of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Hodges of Moorhead and Mrs. Jerome (Lorena) Epperson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Everett Petty of Little Sioux; two granddaughters, LeAnn Masters and Laura Masters; many nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pearl, and an infant brother, Charles.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1987, at the Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Quentin Quanbeck officiating. The organist was Mrs. Syril Brown and the congregation sang “Just As I Am” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.

Casket bearers were Dennis Coyle, Charles Hanson, David Stevens, Larry Epperson, Harold Hodges and Maurice Stewart.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
