MYRA H. JOHNSON

Myra H. Johnson, 96, Onawa, Iowa, died February 27, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

She was born December 2, 1890, in Washta, Iowa, to Joel and Mary Jane (Perry) Hayden. On August 1, 1912, she married Ortez “Ort” Johnson in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple made their home in Blencoe. She worked as a clerk at Ford Apparel in Onawa. Mr. Johnson died August 2, 1931, in Sioux City. She moved to California in 1945 and returned to Onawa in 1957.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Royal Neighbors of American Camp #1469, and a volunteer at Elmwood Nursing Home for 13 years.

Survivors include one son, Corwin “Cotton” Johnson of Onawa; one sister, Mrs. Emma “Tina” Watson of Onawa; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and three brothers.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 1987, at the First Christian Church Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Jerry Quandt and Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist, accompanied the soloist, Rev. Jerry Quandt, who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Bearers were Dean Erlandson, Vernon Myers, Norman Rolph, Eldon Terry, Kenneth Rogers and Merle Mock.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
