Larry L. Mordhorst, son of Clifford and Ruth (Schell) Mordhorst, was born December 20, 1954 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He entered into eternal rest on December 31, 2013 at his mother’s residence in Smithland, Iowa at the age of 59.

At age six, Larry’s family moved from Osmond, Nebraska to Iowa. They made their home at Grant Center for one year then moved to the farm that Larry was currently living on. He attended school at Maple Valley and graduated with the Class of 1973. Larry attended Morningside College in Sioux City for two years.

Larry was a lifelong farmer and continued helping with the harvest until this past year when declining health forced him to quit.

Larry enjoyed golfing, going to the casino, annual fishing trips to Canada, and attending Minnesota Vikings games. He was a founding member of the Ortner Scholarship Foundation and was a member of Willow Vale Golf Club in Mapleton. Larry was baptized on September 14, 1958 at the Congregational Church in Pierce, Nebraska and currently was a member of United Church of Christ in Rodney, Iowa.

Larry is survived by his mother, Ruth Mordhorst of Smithland, IA; one sister, Alice Franzen of Coleridge, NE; two brothers: Richard Mordhorst of Westminster, CO and Douglas Mordhorst and wife Darla of Sioux City, IA; one uncle, Richard Schell of Omaha, NE; several cousins; nieces; nephews and many friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Mordhorst; brother-in-law, Leonard G. Franzen; sister-in-law, Lucinda Mordhorst; niece, Barbara Brewer; and several aunts and uncles.
