AURELIA, Iowa | Farrell D. Barney, 81, of Aurelia, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Ozarks Methodist Manor in Marionville, Mo.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery, with military rites provided by the American Legion David McNeill 129 of Onawa, Monona County V.F.W. Post 2694, and the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Farrell Dean was born on June 11, 1932, in Onawa, the son of Dean and Esther (Davis) Barney. He attended several country schools and graduated from Onawa Public School in 1950. He then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, from 1950 to 1953. He was drafted into the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He then returned to Buena Vista College and graduated in 1956 with degrees in business administration and a minor in sociology. In 1957, he went to work for Wilson & Company in Omaha, serving as a supervisor in the sliced bacon department. He also served tours of duty in the Cedar Rapids and Cherokee, Iowa, plants as a division superintendent and quality assurance manager. He retired from Wilson & Company in 1994 after 37 years of dedicated service.

Farrell and Phyllis P. Comfort were united in marriage on July 11, 1959, at Congregational Church in Blencoe, Iowa. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Pamela and Patricia. Phyllis passed away on March 28, 2007.

Farrell became a member of First Congregational Church in Aurelia in 1991 and served on the trustee and deacon boards.

Farrell is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Sligar of Monett, Mo., and Patty (Tenner) Lilland of Estherville, Iowa; two grandchildren, Haleigh Sligar and Drew Sligar; and his beloved dog, Tanner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.
