HELEN M. BOE

Helen M. Boe, 86, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, died on January 13, 1987, in Kerrville, Texas, where she had lived the past five and a half years at Tierra Linda Ranch with her daughter.

She was born on January 15, 1900, at California Junction, Iowa, the daughter of William and Margaret (Kerr) Olinger. She taught country school near Missouri Valley and in the Soldier Public School in the early 1920’s. She married Harold O. Boe July 15, 1925, at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Soldier until moving to Onawa in 1936. Mr. Boe died November 27, 1972.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Queen Esther Chapter No. 222 Order of Eastern Star of which she was a past matron, and David McNeill Post No. 129, American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Colonel and Mrs. Tom Boe of Bellville, Ill.; a daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Clint (Janet) Smyers of Kerrville, Texas; a sister, Mildred Stanfield, Aurora, Colo.; a grandson, Kerry Ferguson of San Antonio, Texas; a granddaughter, Melissa Lee Boe, Collinsville, Ill.; and step-grandchildren, Belva Jane Smyers, Dallas; Sharon Taylor, Austin; and Scott Smyers, Kerrville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Pearl Richardson and Mae Skow and a brother, William Olinger, Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 16, 1987, at Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Quentin Quanbeck officiating. The organist was Mrs. Syril Brown and the soloist, Steven Johnson, sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Casket bearers were Jack Virtue, N. E. Williams, Clark Ruffcorn, Wilbur Dehn, Francis Jordan, and Robert K. Hansen.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
