OSCAR M. RUDE

Oscar M. Rude, 70, Hornick, Iowa, died January 9, 1987, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was born July 3, 1916, at Vivian, South Dakota, to Ole and Inga (Skolmdahln) Rude. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army with the Combat Engineers. On August 21, 1946, he married Betty Hansen at Odebolt, Iowa. He was a farmer and had been a school bus driver for 10 years at Westwood Community School and four years at Woodbury Central Community School.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill and the Leslie F. Seaton American Legion Post #666 at Smithland, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; one daughter, Mrs. Russell (JoEllen) Ross of Iowa City; two sons, Dale and his wife, Mari, of Columbia, Mo., and Craig of Hornick; one sister, Jennie Mundt Hein of Harlingen, Texas; and one nephew, Garland Mundt of North Ridge, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 1987, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Climbing Hill, Iowa, with Rev. W. A. Resner officiating. The organist, Mrs. Jeri Meyer, played the selections “Just As I Am” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.

Bearers were Vernon Hair, Bernard Hair, Dennis O’Keefe, Don Larson, Millard Hair and Steve Callahan.

Interment was in the Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs, Iowa, with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
