ROCKWELL “ROCKY” BARNEY

Rockwell “Rocky” Barney, Onawa, Iowa, died on January 7, 1987, in the Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Lake City, Iowa, following a long illness. Death came at the age of 78 years, 7 months.

He was born at Fremont, Nebraska, on June 7, 1908, the son of Frank and May (Jewell) Barney. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was employed with the corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1965.

On November 16, 1936, he was married to Rena Ethel Johnson at Council Bluff, Iowa. She died in Onawa on October 17, 1963. He married Lena Funck on March 5, 1974, at Jefferson, South Dakota. She died at Onawa on March 6, 1979.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Esther Barney, of Onawa and a nephew, Farrell Barney, of Aurelia, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rena and his wife, Lena, and a brother, Dean.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 1987, at the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with Rev. Quentin Quanbeck officiating. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
