MARY “MOLLY” LINSCOTT

Mary “Molly” Linscott, 107, Sloan, Iowa, died January 11, 1987, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting, Iowa.

She was born January 7, 1880, in Madison County, Iowa, to Isaac and Hulda (Lyons) Ray, and came to the Sloan area with her family at the age of two. On July 28, 1897, she married Oliver L. Linscott in Monona County. He died in 1947. She had been a midwife for Dr. Prescott, Dr. Comney and Dr. Stauch from 1922 until 1938 during which time she attended the births and cared for 55 babies.

She was a member of the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post #295 Auxiliary, the Athena Lodge #460 Order of Eastern Star and the United Congregational Church of Christ Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one son, Oliver F. “Mose” Linscott of Sloan; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mabel; a son, Walter; five brothers, two sisters and one great grandson.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 1987, at the Wood Funeral Chapel, Sloan, Iowa, with Rev. Peter V. Boe officiating. The organist, Mrs. Glen Miltenberger, played “In The Garden” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”.

Casket bearers were Terry Small, Danny Barnes, Maurice Wilt, Doug Rutter, Randy Cable, and Kenneth Harder.

Interment was in the Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
