SOPHIE O. JOHNSON

Sophie O. Johnson, Omaha, Nebraska, died on December 29, 1986, in Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 3 days. She formerly was a resident of Soldier, Iowa.

She was born in Soldier on September 26, 1898, the daughter of Christopher and Caroline Olson. She worked as a clerk at the Duer Erickson General Store at Soldier and as a secretary in Sioux City. She married Glenn M. Johnson on June 26, 1926, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Chicago. Mr. Johnson died December 14, 1966, in Chicago. Sophie had lived in Omaha since 1968.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Elliott A. Johnson and his wife, Kay, of Houston, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, Alec, Tingvald, Richard, Henry and Gilbert; and one sister, Gunda.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 1987, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. David Johnson officiating. The organist, Mrs. Robert Oehler, played, “In The Garden” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Casket bearers were Larry Olson, Jim Korver, Frank Wilson, Lyle Welch, Richard Parr and Gary Johnson.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
