HARRY SCHLENSIG

Harry Schlensig, 83, Soldier, Iowa, died January 2, 1987, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown.

He was born July 25, 1903, near Soldier, Iowa, to John and Dora (Bolte) Schlensig. On August 28, 1943, he married Ella Melby in Dakota City, Nebraska. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong resident of Soldier, where he had farmed and operated the blacksmith shop and feed store. He had been a resident of the Iowa Veteran’s Home since November of 1983.

He was a member of the Soldier Valley American Legion Post No. 462 at Soldier, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Ella; two daughters, Jane Kiepe and Linda Schlensig, both of Soldier; two grandchildren, Kim and Rusty; and one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and two sisters.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 5, 1987, at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. The organist, Mrs. Ivan Gibbs, played the selection “How Great Thou Art”.

Bearers were Randy Melby, Clarion Melby, Rick Melby, Vernon Melby, Maynard Melby and Larry Ruffcorn.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery at Soldier with Military Graveside Service by Soldier Valley American Legion Post No. 462 of Soldier, Maynard Swenson, Commander.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.
