KEN M. WASHBURN

Ken Michael Washburn, 25, of rural Hornick, Iowa, died on December 29, 1986, in Marian Health Center in Sioux City as a result of injuries suffered in an accident at IBP, Inc., of Denison, Iowa.

He was born in Sioux City on November 8, 1961, the son of Dale and Charry (Small) Washburn. He graduated from Westwood High School at Sloan in 1980. He was an active member of Willow Workers 4-H Club of Hornick and was a member of Future Farmers of America at Westwood Community School. He graduated from Reisch Auction School at Mason City and participated in calling benefit auctions. He was a lifelong area farmer and was involved in team roping with various rodeos. On April 12, 1986, he married Patricia Sievers at the Lutheran Church in Onawa.

He was a member of St. Phillip’s Catholic Church of Hornick.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his parents, Dale and Charry Washburn of Osage, Ia.; sister, Nancy Binder of Irvin, Calif.; brother, Doug, of Hornick; sister, Barbara J. Smith of Sioux City; four nephews, Cory, Andy, Casey, and Ray; and two nieces, Becky and Nicole.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 1987, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oto, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald Zensen officiating. The organist was Mrs. Lowell Aldrich and the soloist, Mr. Steven Johnson, sang, “The Lord’s Prayer”. The selections “Amarillo By Morning” and “Cowboy Rides Away”, both by George Straight, were played.

Honorary bearers were Tom Ryan, Mark Crowl, Lyle Mitchell, Curt Hesse, Lyle Larson and Lyle Harding.

Active casket bearers were Mike Ryan, Jim Parker, Chris Mitchell, Jeff Dahl, Dar Hansen and Jerry Bader.

Interment was in the Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
