MOORHEAD, Iowa | Vonda (West) Yanak, 94, of Moorhead died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery, rural Rodney, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Vonda Pauline was born on May 17, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of Amy (West) Pieffer and granddaughter of Amos and Amanda West. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1934. She lived most of her life in the Monona County area, around Turin, Ticonic, Onawa, Blencoe, and Moorhead, Iowa, areas.

Vonda West and Jerry Yanak met in the fall of 1934, and where married on April 28, 1935, in Whiting, Iowa. They farmed in the Onawa and Moorhead areas, while raising their family. Vonda cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Vonda and Jerry were married for more than 50 years. Jerry passed away on July 8, 1988.

She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Onawa.

Survivors included four daughters and one son, Bev (Darrell) Andrews of Moorhead, Barb Mann of Turin, Iowa, Geraldine (Jim) Moeller of Bella Vista, Ark., Joleen (Dave) Taylor of Onawa, and Larry (Dorothy) Yanak of Ute, Iowa; grandchildren, Pam (Joe) McAndrews, Deb (Scott) Johnson, Peggy (Don) Ingram, Terry (Janet) Mann, Leo (Kathy) Mann, Neal (Susan) Mann, Lori (Gary) Pinkerton, Jim McGuire, Jerry (Barb) Yanak, Jeremy (Kim) Yanak, Heather (Bob) Bellis, Larry Jr. (Beth Vorce) Yanak, Christopher (Andrea) Mohrhauser, Ashley Haynes, and Allison Haynes; 47 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters and one brother, Betty Kent of Jacksonville, Fla., Shirley Brown of Huntington, Ind., Thressa (Bob) Buchanan of McRae, Ga., and Tracy (Arlene) of Lakeland, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Margaret Wyland; granddaughter, Wendy Mann; great-granddaughter, Jayna Mann; two sons-in-law, Bob McGuire and Grant Mann; sister-in-law, Ruth Pieffer; and two brothers-in-law, Buster Brown and Ren Kent.

Memorials may be directed to Kingdom Hall and to Burgess Hospice in Onawa in Vonda’s memory.
