Esther M. Bakke, 97, of Albaton passed away Sept. 4, 2012, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton, with the Rev. Craig Bock officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Esther Mary was born on June 22, 1915, in Albaton, to Peter and Ethel (Castle) Swan. She attended country school and graduated from Sloan (Iowa) High School.

Esther and Leonard Bakke were united in marriage on April 29, 1935, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They made their home in Albaton, of which Esther was a lifelong resident. They farmed until retirement in 1969. Leonard passed away on Sept. 18, 1984.

She was baptized and confirmed at Skien Lutheran Church. There, she served in the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School for many years, and was a member of the church board. Her favorite hobby was quilting.

Esther is survived by one daughter, Kay Kirkpatrick of Sloan, Iowa; three sons, Wayne (Maryann) Bakke of Sloan, Tim (Cindy) Bakke of Sloan, and Dale Bakke of Carroll, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Gerrie Swan of Arizona; many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents; one sister; three brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Dorie Bakke.
