Sally E. Valentine, 76, of Whiting died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Whiting Christian Church, with the Rev. Tom Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Harrison Cemetery, Whiting. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Root Funeral Home in Onawa is in charge of arrangements.

Sally Elaine Valentine, daughter of Howard and Marie Marion (Larson) Anderson, was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Whiting. She was raised in Whiting and attended Whiting Community School, graduating with the Class of 1953.

On Oct. 24, 1954, Sally was united in marriage to Jack Mayer Valentine in Onawa, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Steve, Cindy, Lori, Brenda and Dave.

Sally and Jack made their home in Omaha, Neb., for a short time while Jack completed his college education and then moved to Whiting. They raised their family in Whiting and Sally was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping, and attending her children and grandchildren’s events. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Sally was an active member of Whiting Christian Church and Whiting Community School.

Sally is survived by her children, Steve Valentine and wife Penny of Indianapolis, Ind., Cindy Zortman and husband Mike of Sioux City, Lori Cooper of Whiting, Brenda Abramovich and husband Mike of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Dave Valentine and wife Jennifer of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren, Craig Valentine and wife Marie of Charlotte, N.C., Patrick Valentine of Indianapolis, Kaylee Zortman and Krista Zortman of Sioux City, Leah Cooper and Cara Cooper of Whiting, Alex Abramovich, Kristina Abramovich and Nicole Abramovich of Cincinnati, and Nicholas Beatty and Madison Valentine of Indianapolis; one sister-in-law, Karen Borchers and husband Keith of Whiting; mother-in-law, Lillian Valentine of Beatrice, Neb.; two brothers-in-law: Ralph Valentine and wife Lyla of Beatrice and Richard Valentine and wife Martha of Laramie, Wyo.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack M. Valentine; son-in-law, Gary Cooper; one brother, Richard L. Anderson; and a special great-niece, Megan MacClure.
