Jeannette L. Pranschke, 69, of Mapleton passed away Wednesday, July 25, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City.

Jeannette Lavonne Pranschke was born Jan. 23, 1943, in Ute, the daughter of Edward and Viola (Kroll) Pranschke. The family moved to the Nelson farm east of Soldier in 1945, where she and her sister, Janice, enjoyed exploring the beautiful fields and streams. In 1955, they moved to Castana, where Jeannette finished out her school years graduating in 1961.

In 1962, she began her job of handling insurance claims for Wooldridge Insurance Agency in Sioux City and continued there until 1991. In 1992, Jeannette bought her home in Mapleton in order to be a caregiver for her father until 2005.

Jeannette devoted a lot of time to working in her yard, enjoying landscaping and watching the birds and squirrels. She enjoyed her retirement years in peace and quiet, reading her spiritual books and cooking good old-fashioned meals.

She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute in 1944 and enjoyed worshiping by watching Dr. Schuler at the Crystal Cathedral every Sunday morning since the 1970s.

She is survived by a sister, Jan Johnson of Sioux City; a niece, Glenda Vollmer of Arkansas City, Kan.; and a niece-in-law, Karen Johnson.

Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Viola Pranschke; a brother-in-law, Bob Johnson; and a nephew, Guy Johnson.

A graveside service was held Saturday, Aug. 25, at St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton was in charge of the arrangements.
