Grandmother Slentz

Died.—At the home of her son, William, in Maple township, Saturday Feb. 27, 1909, Mrs. Sarah T. Slentz, aged 67 years, 4 months and 5 days.

Again has the decree, "Dust thou art, and to dust return," gone forth in our midst and summoned a beloved mother and friend, and our heads are bowed in sorrow and grief. On Monday afternoon at one o'clock a sorrowing concourse of friends and relatives gathered at the place of
her death in solemn convocation to reverence the memory of t h e deceased and listened to a funeral discourse by the Rev O S. Bryan.

Sarah Jane Shierry was born October 22, 1841, and the early part of her life was spent in Fayette County, this state. She was united in marriage to Jacob Slentz in 1861, to which union were born six children, five boys and one girl. Four sons still survive her, namely, John and William Slentz of this, place, O B. Slentz Milbank Minn., and Jas. Slentz of Tie Valley, Oregon. Her husband and two children have been dead some years. She has been spoken of as one of the kindest and most loving mothers, highly respected by a large circle of acquaintances, and those who knew her best loved her most. She came to Monona County some twenty years ago and has since made her home in this vicinity.

Besides the children she leaves two sisters, Miss Amelia Shierry of Ames, Iowa and Mrs. P. Tupper of Magnolia who with Mr. Tupper and daughter Mrs. E. Smith of Logan were here to attend the funeral.

Interment was made in the family plot at Heisler cemetery.

Weep not that her tolls are over
Weep not that her race is run;
God grant we may rest as calmly
When our work, like her's is done
Till then we yield with gladness
Our mother to Him to keep,
And rejoice in the sweet assurance,
He giveth His loved ones sleep
