Mrs. Berdie Slentz Buried Today
Pioneer Resident Dies At Home Following
Lingering Illness

Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. Berdie Slentz, 7 2 year old pioneer resident of the Mapleton territory. She passed away at her home Monday evening following a lingering Illness.

Funeral rites were held in St Peter's Evangelical church with Rev. Elmer G Otte pastor of the church, officiating. Mrs. Robert Kahrs, Mrs. Earl Jacobs, Mrs. Elmer G. Otto, Miss Evelyn Andersen sang, and were accompanied by Miss Burnita Nielsen.

Interment was in the Heisler cemetery near Mapleton with the Duschl Funeral home in charge.
Joe Uhl Jr., William Uhl, Ted Uhl, Chris Christensen, Harold Johnson and W A Nathich served as pallbearers.

Berdie May Scarborough was born June 6, 1871 at Elkton, Maryland, when a small girl she came to Magnolia, la. with her parents.

On May 2, 1887, she was married to John Jacob Slentz at Logan, la. They lived on a farm northwest of Mapleton for nearly 10 years. The Slentz family came to this community in 1889, 51 years ago. Mr. Slentz preceded his wife in death in 1923.

She is also survived by a sister. Mrs. Anchor Ibsgaard (Beulah) of Mapleton and five sons, Clarence O. Slentz of Mapleton, William A Slentz and Merrel J Slentz of Ida Grove, Vern A Slentz and Roy E. Slentz. of Oto. One son, Hurley, preceded her in death.

She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. M J Baagoe of Mapleton and 10 grandchildren
