Francis Pinkney Taken By Death

Funeral Services to Be Friday Afternoon for Lifelong Resident

Francis Pinkney, 59-year old lifelong resident in the Mapleton community, died Tuesday morning in the Veterans hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient for the last 10 months.

A bricklayer and plasterer by trade, he had been in ill health for about a year He had been in a critical condition for several months following an operation for a brain tumor while in the hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 O’clock Friday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. George A. Osborn, pastor of the church, officiating.

Burial will be in Heisler Cemetery here under the direction of the Duschl Funeral Home.

Members of the American Legion of which he was a member will meet in the Legion and Auxiliary hall at 1 o’clock to attend the services in a body.

Officers of the Legion will be in charge of military rites at the church and cemetery.

Born in Mapleton, Mr. Pinkney resided in this community all his life with the exception of about 2 years that he served in the Army during World War I.

He followed the masonry profession for many years and was an expert in his work. He took an active part in Legion work, joining the Mapleton post shortly after his discharge from the Army nearly 30 years ago.

Survivors include 3 cousins, Mrs. Manley Durst of Danbury, James C. Hammond of Los Angeles, Cal formerly of Mapleton, and Mrs. Eva De Pue of Sioux City, formerly of Mapleton.
