Earl F. Pauley, Sr., 77, of Mapleton, was dead on arrival at a hospital in Onawa, Iowa, Wednesday, February 6, 1985.

Services were at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 9, in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton. The Rev. Dick Krambeck officiated. Burial was in the Heisler Cemetery at Mapleton. A prayer service was at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, in the funeral home.

Mr. Pauley was born August 11, 1907, to John and Florence (Johns) Pauley in Mapleton. He was raised in Mapleton and worked for the Haubrich Construction Company. He married Mary Riley February 23, 1924, at Onawa. In 1930, they moved to Smithland, Iowa, where he fanned. They returned to Mapleton in 1936, where he was a heavy equipment operator for Monona County. Mrs. Pauley died October 22, 1971. The last two years he had made his home with his daughter in Ute and Turin, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters, two sons, two grandsons, two brothers, and one sister.

Survivors include one son, Earl, Jr., of Turin, Iowa; five daughters, Mrs. Myron (Delores) Anderson and Mrs. William (Wilma) Hopkins, both of Mapleton, Mrs. Kenny (Ruth Hopkins of Turin, Iowa, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Allen of Castana, Iowa, and Mrs. Harold (Elaine) Hopkins of Madison, Wisconsin; one sister, Mrs. Sy (Ellen) Fox of Waupun, Wisconsin; twenty-six grandchildren; and fifty-three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Freddie Leisinger, Fred Kuhlman, Lea Castle, Harlan Theobald, Pete Sankey, and Ralph Wickersham.
