JOHN DETLEF PASSICK

John Detlef Passick, son of Detlef and Sophie Passick was born June 7, 1883 in Germany. He was the oldest child in his family. When a small child he came to the United States with his parents, they lived for a short time at Arcadia before coming to Mapleton. John lived the remainder of his life in and near Mapleton.

He farmed until 1924, at which time he and his wife moved into Mapleton. From 1924 until 1932 he operated a trucking service in Mapleton. They then returned to the farm in 1932 and resided there until 1947. In 1947 he retired and moved back into Mapleton, where he made his home for the remainder of his me.

He was married to Emma Schneekloth April 1, 1908 in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa. To this union one daughter was born. Mr. and Mrs. Passick celebrated their 5Oth wedding anniversary in 1958.

He was baptized into the Lutheran faith during his infancy in Germany and was confirmed at the Soldier township Lutheran church during his youth. In 1919 when St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church was organized, Mr. Passick served as temporary chairman, and later being elected a deacon on the first church council. He was active in all church functions of this congregation during his membership.

He died Monday, Jan. 16, 1961 at a Cherokee hospital after several months' illness. He had reached the age of 77 years, 7 months and 9 days.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Bonita) Mohr of Mapleton; one granddaughter; three sisters: Mrs. Anna Clausen of Mapleton, Mrs. Theo Kuehl of Mapleton, and Mrs. Gabriele Harder, Wolsey, S.D.; one brother, Frank Passick of Mapleton. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were: H. D. Passick, Lewis Kuehl, W. D. Clausen, Henry Kluver, Floyd Marsh and Arthur Gosch. Burial was in the Heisler cemetery under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home.
