George Elmer Neely, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Neely, was born August 28, 1890 at Mapleton. He was the youngest child in a family of 7 children. He died Friday, Jan. 9 at the Veterans hospital in Omaha, following: a short illness, at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 11 days.

Mr. Neely resided in Mapleton until 1935 at which time he moved to Montana where he lived until 1949. In 1949 he came back to Mapleton where he resided for the remainder of his life. Mr. Neely was a painter by trade.

He was married to Ella Peitz in 1922. One daughter was born to this union. He served in the armed forces during World War 1 and was a member of the American Legion at Mapleton.

Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Donald (Peggy) Moore of Madison, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Haggard, Three Forks, Mont., Mrs. Gertrude Lehman, Bozeman, Mont.; And Mrs. Lizzie McCleery, Ute; one brother, Chauncey, of Sioux City; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the Walter Chapel with Rev. Byron W. Ayers officiating.

Pallbearers were members of Loren Hollister Post No. 496 of the Mapleton American Legion. Burial was a t Heisler cemetery under the direction of the Walter funeral home. Military rites were held at graveside by Loren Hollister Post, No. 496 American Legion.
