Phoebe D. Rose, 97, of Cassville, Mo. and formerly of Mapleton, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, in St. John’s Hospital in Cassville, Mo.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 11, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Pastor Karen Garrison officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute.
Phoebe Doris Rose was born March 29, 1914, in Mapleton, the daughter of John and Ida Goodall. She taught in a country school after graduating normal school in Onawa.
On Dec. 10, 1935, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Rose, who preceded her in death. Phoebe lived in Mapleton until 2006 when she moved to Shell Knob, Mo., to be close to her daughter. She spent the last four years at the Red Rose Inn at Cassville.
She was active in the Castana Thursday Club and the UMW of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton, where she was a lifelong member. She was also a lifelong member of the Royal Neighbors. She will be remembered for her pies and the rugs she continued to make until her death.
Survivors include her daughter, LaRoyce Arnold and her husband, Jerry, of Shell Knob, Mo.; two granddaughters, Patricia Wilkens of Florence. Ala., and Barbara Arnold of Aurora, Mo.; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Shipp of Florence.
Along with her husband, Phoebe was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dallas Rose; two sisters; and three brothers.
Memorials in memory of Phoebe may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton or the Shell Knob Community Center.
