Mary Ann Schmid, age 79, died Thursday, May 3, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, peacefully with family by her side. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Beresford Zion United Methodist Church, with burial in Zion Cemetery. Visitation began at 2 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton. Family greeted visitors from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Beresford Zion United Methodist Church or the Zion Cemetery Fund.

Mary Ann was born Sept. 14, 1932, near Ida Grove to Clyde and Maxine Hinrickson. She attended school in Mapleton and Castana.

Mary Ann married Rueben Schmid Sept. 14, 1951. They made their home on a farm north of Beresford, S.D. She was very dedicated in helping her husband with the farm work. Following her husband’s death in 1977, she made her home at the old Pleasant Valley School house.

Mary Ann enjoyed making crafts, crocheting, playing cards, picking mulberries, gathering wood, putting up hay, gardening, telling memories around the camp fire, fishing, canning, and cooking for other people.

She is survived by her mother, Maxine Hinrickson, Mapleton; her daughter, Isabell ‘Isy’ Larson, Harrisburg, S.D.; two sons, Lester of Beresford, S.D. and Joe of Garretson, S.D.; eight grandchildren: Susan Schmid, Tea, S.D., Jason (Traci) Schmid, Harrisburg, S.D., Stacy (Donnie) Eichhorn, Hartford, S.D., Matthew Schmid, Beresford, S.D., Robin (Brandon) Reiter, Vermillion, S.D., Levi Schmid, Garretson, S.D., Ethan and Luke Larson, Tea, S.D.; 10 great-grandchildren; and five siblings: Charles (Barb) Hinrickson, Castana; Maxine Shipley, Hastings; Pearl (Richard) Baker, Castana; Ruby (Bob) Frank, Vermillion, S.D.; and Ronnie Hinrickson, Onawa. Special friends: Ruby and Dave Yanak, Rick and Nancy Bradley, Chris Bair, Elwood Krejci, and Wanda Saugstad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rueben, son, Earl, grandson, Josh, her father, Clyde, and brothers, Andy and Lester, and special friend Myrtle Tuntland.
