William Thomas Mitchell, son of George and Meissa Mitchell, was born March 11. 1867 at Alert, Indiana and died Tuesday, May 5, 1959 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nellie Moller, in Sioux City, at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 24 days.

Mr. Mitchell came to Mapleton at the age of 21 where he resided for the remainder of his life, except for the last two years of which he lived in Sioux City. He was married to Anna Hall, December 21, 1892 at Onawa. Two daughters and three sons were born to this union. His wife preceded him in death in 1956. While in Mapleton he was manager of the Bohman Lumber Company and of the Farmers Lumber Yard.

He was a member of the Christian church at Mapleton for many years and also a member of the Masonic lodge and the Woodman of the World here.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. V. V. (Nellie) Moller, of Sioux City and Doris Bartell of Belle Flower, Calif., eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sons, four, brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 8, 1959 at the Christian Church in Mapleton with Rev. Jerry Phillips officiating. Pallbearers were Christy McClatchey, Francis Chamberlin, Paul Hollister, J. C. Muckey, Paul Kinney and Dale Winger. Burial was in the Heisler cemetery under the direction of the Walter Funeral home.
