2 March 1972Hazel Bethene Mitchell, daughter of Eaton and Effie Seavy was born November 3, 1894, at Exira, Iowa and died Thursday, February 24, 1972 at a hospital in Sac City after a long illness. She had reached the age of 77 years, 3 months and 21 days.
Mrs. Mitchell moved to Danbury with her parents in 1896. She graduated from Danbury High School and attended Morningside College. After teaching school in Smithland and rural schools for 44 years, she retired in 1961. She married Harold Mitchell September 20, 1920.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Smithland Methodist Church, Smithland W.S.C.S. and Smithland American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Kathryn) Hansen of Sac City; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 26, 1972, at 2:00 p.m. in the Smithland Methodist Church with Rev. H. A. Smidt officiating. Myron Armour sang "God Understands" and "Going Down the Valley" accompanied by Mrs. Harriet Hackett, organist.
Burial was in the Heisler Cemetery near Mapleton.
Pallbearers were: Duane Bennett, Orvil Cox, Calvin Servis, Wilfred Uhl, Richard Shattuck and Harold Fowler.
