Effie Mae Merrifield 1885-1963

Mrs. Effie Mae Merrifield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Koontz, was born July 2, 1885 at Soldier, Iowa. She died Wednesday, January 1, 1963, at Littleton, Colorado, after a short illness, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 29 days.

The family moved from Soldier to Rodney, where they lived for three years, and then moved to a farm near Anthon in 1906, where they lived for 14 years.

She was married to Taylor T Merrifield on December 14, 1903. She and her husband came to Mapleton in 1920 and she lived here for over 35 years. Mr. Merrifield preceded her in death in 1945. For the last eight years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Edward Doyle, at Littleton, Colorado. She was a member of the Methodist church.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Sybil) Doyle of Littleton, Colorado; two grandsons; one sister, Mrs. Anna Olson of San Leandro, Calif.; and other distant relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, one son and one brother.

Funeral services were held at the Walter Chapel in Mapleton at 10:30 am. Saturday, January 4, 1964, Rev Byron W. Ayers, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated.

Interment was in Heisler cemetery at Mapleton, under direction of the Walter Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Lewis Leisinger, Roy Reichard, Dick LeFebvre, Ade Rohde, George Zediker and Rowley Williams.
