Obituary Of Robert Bruce Lee

Robert Bruce Lee, age 90, of Mapleton, Iowa, died Monday, December 7, 1987, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services were held on Thursday, December 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Methodist Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dick Krambeck officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton. A prayer service was held on Wednesday evening at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Lee was born on July 8, 1897 to John and Lorena (Richmond) Lee at Hamburg. Iowa. He moved with his parents as a child to a farm near Sloan and later to a farm near Mapleton. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1915 and taught school for one year in rural Ute, Iowa. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1922. He was the principal at McGregor, Iowa from 1918 to 1921. He married Vivian Scrogum November 24, 1921, at McGregor, Iowa. He was principal of the high school in Hartley, Iowa, in 1921 and Superintendent of Hartley from 1922 to 1923, at Belle Plaine from 1923 to 1927 and at Rawlins, Wyoming from 1927 until his retirement in 1958. In 1959 the couple moved to Oceanside, California and came to Mapleton in 1963.

He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. 50 year member of Rawlins Masonic Lodge 5 AF & AM, a member of York Rites Bodies, commander of Commandery at Rawlins and was grand prelate of Wyoming. He was grand chaplain of Wyoming Ivanhoe Chapter and was potentate of the Korean Temple in Rawlins in 1949. He was a longtime member arid past president of the Rotary Club at Rawlins and Mapleton. He was also a past member of the Mapleton Club and also a member of the Mapleton Order of Eastern Star. He was a honorary member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple of Sioux City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers and his infant daughter, Grace Ann.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian.

Pallbearers were Chester Lee, Bruce Lee, Loren Lee, Lowell Lee, Dwayne Lee and Melvin Ortner.
