Mrs. Samuel Lee Buried Monday Forenoon

Had been a Resident of Mapleton and Vicinity for Sixty Years

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o’clock, at St John’s M.E. Church, for Mrs. Samuel Lee who died at 12:20 a.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.W. Kenney, following a two year’s illness of senile debility, she having passed her eighty-first birthday.

Mrs. Lee was a resident of this vicinity for more than sixty years. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.S. Handy. The interment was made in Heisler cemetery where she was laid to rest beside her parents.

Maria A Doud was born May 9, 1840, in Indiana, and was one of the pioneer settlers of Iowa. She was married to Daniel Reichard in 1858, and to this union was born one son, Alton Reichard, who passed away on December 19, 1920, the husband and father having departed this life a few years after the birth of the son.

In 1865 she was married to Samuel Lee, and to this union seven children were born. Three passed away in early childhood, and the other four who survive their mother are Charles and William Lee of Sioux City, Mrs. Albert Hollister of Kenwood and Mrs. R. W. Kenney of this city. She also has one surviving sister, Mrs. Robert McCleary of Mapleton. She leaves many loving friends to mourn her passing.
