Carl Fredrick John Johnk, age 67, of Mapleton, Iowa, was found dead on Wednesday, March 16, 1988, at his home.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 1988, in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Reverend Richard Hempenius officiating. Burial was in the Heisler Cemetery at Mapleton, Iowa, with military graveside rites conducted by the Henry McKenna Post #651, American Legion of Oto. Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 1988, in the funeral home.

Mr. Johnk was born on March 22, 1920 to Fred and Minnie (Sonksen) Johnk in Mapleton, Iowa, and moved with his parents to the Oto community in 1924. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On May 15, 1946, he married Lucille Steinhoff in Holly Springs, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Smithland area. He also worked for the Art B. Thomas Carnival from 1946 until 1950. In 1952, he established the Antique Auto Museum in Myrtle, South Dakota. From 1954 to 1981 he was employed with various carnivals. He had lived in Mapleton, Iowa, since 1978.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three sons, Karl "Fritz" II of Rodney, Iowa, Jeffrey of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Willi of Taylors, South Carolina: and two grandchildren, Ethan and Ashlyn.

Pallbearers were Marvin Eskildsen, Bill Corbin, Dennis Lynch, Norman Cleveland, Lynn Jarvis, and Dale Timmerman.
