Harvey E Houchins Died Suddenly

Has Been Ill For Some Time, But Was About Until Last Friday

Harvey E Houchins, 55, a pioneer of Mapleton for the past thirty-five years, died suddenly at his home on Second Street, Saturday evening of anemia. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from St. John’s M.E. church and burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. (Actually Heisler Cemetery) Rev. M.D. Bush officiated at the service.

Harvey Ellis Houchins was born October 18, 1861, in Henry County, Ind., and came here with his parents in the summer of 1881. In 1886 he was married to Miss Nellie Comer, who with the two sons, Dellie Roy and Harry E. Houchins, survive him.

For a number of years he farmed near town, but for the past five years he had resided in town. Two brothers and three sisters also survive. They are John of Annandale, Minn., Thomas of Hopkins, Mo., Mrs. Carroll of Monawl, Neb., Mrs. Maranda Wiggs and Mrs. Frances Newkirk, of Mapleton.

Sir Houchins was an active member of the Modern Woodman and the lodge took an active part in the funeral arrangements.
