The death of John Hass took place Saturday, Dec. 23, at St. Joseph's hospital, in Sioux City where he had recently submitted to an operation for cancer of the stomach.

Mr. Hass was born in Germany Dec, 12, 1844. He immigrated to the United States in 1882, and settled in Clinton County, Iowa. Two years later he came to Monona County and settled on a farm near Mapleton, where he lived until about eight years ago, when he moved to Mapleton and resided here until the time of his death.

Mr. Hass was twice married Mrs. Margaret Hass, his second wife, living to mourn his loss.

He leaves four children, as follows: Mrs. Lizzie Nathich, Worthing, S.D.; Mrs. Anna Schnekloth, Wescott, Iowa: Mrs. Thos. Lorenizen, Castana, Mrs. J. R. Ruchti, Mapleton. A son, Henry Hass, is deceased.

Mr. Hass was one of our most respected citizens, whose strict integrity and sterling honesty made an excellent example for all young men to follow. His quiet yet friendly disposition made friends of all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.

There is sincere grief among his many friends on account of his sudden death.

The funeral occurred Tuesday from the family home, being conducted by Rev. Greif of the Evangelical Lutheran church.

In this manner we wish to publicly thank the many friends and neighbors, who so kindly gave their aid and sympathy during the fatal Illness and after the death of our beloved husband and father.
