George Franklin Grass, son of Laura and Frank Grass, was born August 18, 1899, at Mapleton, Iowa. Mr. Grass died unexpectedly at the Home Cafe in Mapleton on the evening of October 9, 1964, following a heart attack. He had reached the age of 65 years 1 month and 21days.
He lived his entire life in the Mapleton community. He will long be remembered for his many services to the Mapleton community. He was last employed by the Mapleton post-office. He was in the creamery business for a number of years.
Mr. Grass was a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge of Mapleton and a past member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows.
He was married to Cleopatra Merrifield April 29, 1936 at Denison, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10.30 a.m. Monday, Oct 12, 1964 at the Walter Chapel in Mapleton. Rev. E. G. Otte, pastor of the United Church of Christ, officiated.
Interment was in the Heisler cemetery at Mapleton under direction of the Walter Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Maurice Kueny, Lawrence Otto, Joe Hayes, Adrian Dean, Ray McCleerey and Joe Thiel.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Eugene (Mable) McGarrity of Danbury one brother, Harvey of Mapleton, one -half-brother, Paul Lee of Seattle, Washington, also other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and one brother.
